Both of our sites at Elmwood and Meltham are accessible for people in wheelchairs. There are designated parking bays adjacent to the surgery entrances and the surgeries have a ramp and wide doors to allow for wheelchair access.
Unfortunately we do not have a lift at the Holmfirth site, so if you have an appointment in a consultation room on the 1st floor, you will need to enter the building using the entrance at the back of the practice, adjacent from Holme Valley Memorial Hospital.
For more information about the accessibility at both sites, please search for our Accessibility Guides on www.accessable.co.uk/.
Seated Weighing Scales
We now have seated weighing scales available to use at Meltham Village Surgery.
If you are a wheelchair user and would like to use the scales, please feel free to pop down to Meltham Village Surgery and ask a receptionist. If you require assistance moving from your chair to the scales, please bring someone with you.
Hearing Induction Loop
We have a portable audio induction loop available at reception for the benefit of our patients with hearing aids fitted with a ‘T’ switch. Please make receptionist aware of your requirement of loop or mention in the comments when booking appointment online so the loop can be made available for your consultation as well.
Call Screen
Another innovation that has helped a number of patient groups is the automated call system which displays a patient’s name and the room they are seeing a clinician in.
Signage
All areas of the building have clear signage which is compliant for people with reduced visual acuity and dementia.
Automatic Doors
All entrances/ exits to the surgeries have automated doors with step free access.
At Holmfirth the main entrance from the car park has a ramp for wheelchair access as well. The automated door at the rear of the building opens automatically when entering and has a button release (on the left side wall when facing the exit) for exiting.
Toilets
Disabled and gender neutral facilities are available. As are baby-changing facilities.
Disabled Parking
The two spaces nearest our entrance are clearly marked and reserved for blue-badge holders.
