This Autumn, eligibility criteria for the COVID booster has changed and now differs from those eligible for the Flu booster.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has revised itsĀ advice for the autumn 2025 COVID-19 vaccination programme, which ministers have accepted. The programme will now concentrate on providing vaccinations to individuals at highest risk of serious disease.

Who is now eligible?

For autumn 2025, COVID-19 vaccination will be offered to:

  • adults aged 75 years and over
  • residents in care homes for older adults
  • individuals who are immunosuppressed aged 6 months and over

Why the Change?

The JCVI has updated its advice based on the latest data and research, aiming to protect the most vulnerable populations. This targeted approach ensures that those at the highest risk receive the necessary protection against COVID-19.

Action needed

Those eligible for a Flu or COVID booster should have already received an SMS message asking you to book your appointment, or a call if we do not have a mobile phone number on your medical record. If you have not received either, please call the surgery.

Those that have booked a Flu vaccine appointment will be offered COVID on the day IF you meet the eligibility criteria. The clinician will inform you of this in your appointment.

If you or someone you know falls into one of these categories, please contact the surgery to book your Flu and/or COVID vaccination. Staying up-to-date with your COVID-19 booster is crucial for your health and the health of those around you.
